Academic Programme
 


Saraswati Medical Foundation is serving the society and is in forefront of medical practice since last 20 years through its hospital division known as Saraswati Hospital.

Since beginning our main aim is to bring latest technologies at affordable cost to this region of Maharashtra.

Not only technology but we also aim at training the residents in all the faculties of medicine so that they are able to shoulder the responsibilities of not only what they are allotted but also come up with innovative ideas and be proactive.

It is solely because of this noble aim that, it has earned the reputation of trustworthy institution.


Residency programme in medicine includes:    

> Daily ward teaching in the unit in which the resident is posted.

> Regular presentation of cases in wards and grand rounds as well.

> Daily discussion of cases and individual topic as per the
   programme.

> Discussion and seminar and review of literature in journal clubs.

> Seminar/Presentation on topic of interest and controversy held once in a month.

> Posting in various specialties of medicine.

> Attendance in all hospital activities and seminar.

> Special guest lectures in subjects of common interest, investigative facilities and    therapeutics modalities.

> Posting in various OPD's and specialty clinics like diabetics, Haematology,    Cardiology, Dermatology, Gastroenterology.

> Night duties every 3-4 days. 6-8 duties/month. All the residents will maintain LOG    book, registers, copies of content of seminars and case reports as discussed in the    grand rounds.



Lectures:     

Cases and lectures to be held in the afternoon as per the teaching schedule.
The department also arranges special lectures on diagnostics including Bio-chemistry, Dermatology, Pathology, and Microbiology. Extra lectures and demonstration will also be held along with discussion in the above departments.
They will also be attending the guest lectures arranged by Kolhapur Medical Association and Association of Physician of India, Kolhapur Branch.


Teaching Schedule:

Monday 9:00 a.m. to 10.00 am Grand Rounds Attended by residential physician and all residents
Tuesday 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Subject seminar Attended by majority of the faculty members and all residents
Thursday 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Journal Club Attended by majority of the faculty members and all residents
Friday 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Clinical case discussion Attended by majority of the faculty members and also by other members of API, Kolhapur.
1st Friday 8 p.m. Mortality and clinic pathological meeting Attended by all physicians, Residents, Micro biologist and pathologist.
Alt. Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Clinic Radiological Unit. Radiological presentations by Apple Hospital and clinical co-relation by physicians.


Daily routine:

1) Morning rounds:
The residents individually examine all the patients including ICU and make detail assessment. They present the cases during consultant's rounds and actively participate in bedside clinical discussion. After the rounds, the necessary procedures and investigations will be carried out by the residents.
The residents will independently examine all new admissions and take necessary, appropriate emergency measure before the consultants see them.

2) OPD Schedule
All the residents attend the OPD daily and examine the patients and present them to the consultants. There will be discussion of interesting cases in OPD.
Residents are also allowed to attend the specialty clinics by rotation. On every Monday there will be grand rounds, attended by Dr. Ashok Bhupali (Cardiologist) and majority of the faculty members.
There will be detailed cases presentation and elaborate discussion on signs, symptoms and management.

3) Teaching programmes
All the faculty members and the residents actively participate in the teaching programmes by presenting interesting cases, reading interesting articles and updating with recent advances in medicine.

4) Mortality and clinico pathology meetings
There will be mortality and clinico pathology meetings every 2nd Friday of the month which will be attended by all the faculty members including Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology, Micro-biology and all the residents.
There will be open discussion on the possible cause of death, histopathological correlation and about the short comings in the management in any.

5) CME Programmes
Saraswati Medical Foundation conducts periodical CME for physicians and GP's in which the residents take active part. They will be also radiological and pathological meetings in coordination with our diagnostic division.

6) Basic Sciences and Library facility
As per the understanding with Dr. D.Y.Patil Medical College our residents will be allowed to avail the library and basic science facilities in the medical colleges mentioned above.
In addition, we have a full-fledged departmental library with collection of recent journals and internet facility to which residents have 24 hrs access.
